1. How does Keyport get my keys into the Keyport Slide?
Your keys do not fit directly into the Keyport Slide. Keyport has designed proprietary keys called Blades, which take the place of your current keys and fit securely in the Keyport. Keyport Blades have the same shank and bitting of a traditional key, but feature a universal head that is much smaller and lighter than that of a traditional key.
2. What keys are compatible with Keyport products?
The Keyport is compatible with most of the world's key blanks. Any key with a shank length of less than 2.0", thickness of less than 0.125", and a height of less than 0.46", can be converted to a Keyport Blade including most high-security keys.
The Keyport is also compatible with the majority of transponder-chipped auto keys. Find out if your auto key is chipped with our Auto Key Checker. If your auto is not listed in the database, chances are it is not chipped and Keyport compatible. If you have a question pertaining to a specific vehicle, email helpdesk@mykeyport.com.
While a key may be compatible with the Keyport, there are rare cases where the lock itself will not allow access to a Blade extended from a Keyport (for example, the steering column shifter on some Chevy and GMC models with automatic transmissions). Keyport cannot guarantee a lock's accessibility. In these cases, the Blade may be removed from the Keyport and attached to the quick-release lanyard.
3. Do I need to mail in a set of my keys to get them custom converted to Keyport compatible Blades?
In most cases, no. Keyport will send you Keyport Blade blanks based upon your current set of key's manufacturer's code #. All you will need to do is take the Blade blanks we send you along with your current set of keys to a local locksmith to be duplicated.
The only time Keyport needs a copy of your key is in the rare case where we cannot obtain a similar key blank. High-security or restricted keys are examples of such keys. Keyport may also need a copy of your key in the case of extremely rare keys, keys that our locksmiths cannot identify, or chipped auto keys for vehicles that do not accommodate OBP (On-Board Programming). If your vehicle is not OBP you may also opt to have the Blade and blank chip sent to you and have it programmed by an auto locksmith or dealer. Keyport will notify you promptly should such a situation arise.
More - Blades can be easily inserted and removed from the Keyport, so moving Blades around to suit your lifestyle is very easy. Should you need to carry more than six Blades at a time, additional Blades or traditional keys can be carried on the option quick-release lanyard.
Less - Having less than six keys is not a problem, although we recommend filling your Keyport in the interest of look and feel. In addition to keys, Keyport also offers inserts, such as a USB flash drive, mini-LED, and bottle opener, each of which can take the place of a key and fit securely in the Keyport.
6. How does Keyport’s secure shipping procedure work for custom convert keys?
You assume the responsibility for getting the key(s) to Keyport, so the method of shipping is up to you.
When sending live Custom Convert keys, we recommend you follow our secure shipping precautions so you are protected in the extremely rare case your keys are lost or stolen in transit:
›› Include minimal information inside the package (name, email, order #) with your keys. For the return address/shipping address, do not include any addresses linked to the keys you are sending. Instead use a trusted friend's address, work address, etc. ›› Send your keys in a padded envelope or box, not a paper envelope. ›› Use a shipping method with online tracking.
NOTE:
For the highest level of security you can send unduplicated keys instead of live keys. You will have to obtain unduplicated keys from your local locksmith and have them duplicated from your original live keys when you receive your converted Blades from us.
Please send your custom keys to:
Keyport, Inc.
Attn: Receiving Dept.
50 N. Gibson Rd., Ste. 180
Henderson, NV 89014
Tel: (855) 539-7678
Our goal is to fulfill your order as soon as possible. In general, please expect approximately two weeks from the time we receive your Key ID Form photos. That said, timing depends primarily upon the types of Blades being ordered. Typically, Blades in our standard inventory are available within one business day, while Blades outside of our standard inventory may take up to ten business days as they have to be special ordered. High-security or restricted Blades also take some time as they require the customer to first mail us a key so that we can convert it. We do our best to keep customers regularly apprised of their order status which can be checked via your My Account page located in the upper left corner of the store.
8. Is it possible to replace individual keys once they are in the Keyport Slide?
Yes. Blades are easily inserted into and removed from the Slide. For more information, please refer to our Step-By-Step Guide to inserting and removing Blades.
Keyport has developed a lost and found program to assist in the recover of lost Keyports. When you purchase a Keyport through our online store, it is automatically registered under your name. The exterior of each Keyport includes your unique serial number and Keyport's website address, along with the phrase "REWARD IF FOUND." If a Keyport is found and we are contacted, a Keyport representative will contact the owner and facilitate a safe return. As a thank you, Keyport will offer the finder a $20 discount on anything in the Keyport store. We also encourage the owner of the Keyport to provide a reward of their choosing.
10. Can I purchase a Keyport Slide if I live outside the USA & Canada?
We currently carry North American (USA & Canada) key blanks only. Therefore, if you would like to purchase a Keyport you will be required to send an entire set of your keys to our Nevada, USA facility so we can convert them to Keyport compatible keys (Blades). You can either send live cut keys using our secure shipping method or you can obtain uncut keys (blanks) from your local locksmith. Please note that your keys will not fit in the Keyport unless you send them to us. Learn More
